Don't be fooled by the inherent simplicity of the drink — there is room for creativity and personalisation when it comes to making an Old Fashioned.
Ingredients
- 1 x The Berry Tea Shop ‘No 6. Madame Grey Tea’ Ice Cube (see method for brewing instructions)
- 1 x Fresh orange peel
- 5-10 ml Sugar syrup
- Large tea cup or short rocks glass (for cocktail)
- Hawthorne Strainer
- Jigger/Measure
- Stirrer
- Mixing Glass
- Large jug
-
Teapot with infuser or Jug and Tea Strainer
- Large square ice cube tray to make the ‘tea ice’
- Regular size ice cube tray to make smaller ‘tea ice’
Equipment
Directions
24 HOURS BEFORE - Cold brew the tea and freeze your ice cubes
- Add 1 teaspoon of tea per 100 ml cold water (200 ml makes approx. 1 drink). You will need more supply to make enough for the ‘tea ice’ (we suggest up to 1L to be safe)
- Infuse in the fridge overnight
- Strain into a jug or teapot
- The following day, make the large ‘tea ice cubes’ pouring the infused overnight tea into the large square ice cube trays. Top with fresh orange peel for garnish and place in freezer to be ready for when you want to enjoy the cocktail
- In addition, follow the same method to make the ‘small tea ice cubes’ using the smaller/regular size ice cube trays. Freeze at the same time as when making the larger ice cube trays
To make the cocktail:
- Put your chosen cocktail glass/tea cup into the freezer
- Add Whiskey, Sugar Syrup and small ‘Tea’ ice cubes to a mixing glass or jug
- Stir until chilled
- Take out your cocktail glass from freezer
- Add 1 x large tea ice cube (with orange peel inside it) into your cocktail glass
- Single strain contents from mixing glass into chilled cocktail glass with the large ice cube, ensuring no ice or ‘bits’ from your mixing glass fall into your cocktail glass
- Enjoy!
